Pet build questions
Greetings,
Before I take the time to develop a build based around any particular pet class I wanted to find out some information I can't seem to locate.
To start things off, after a ranger charms an animal I know from experience that the creature levels up as the player does, stays outside of town and rejoins you when you return to regular game play.
My question is what happens when you decide to log off?
Do you lose that pet and are therefore forced to find and level up a completely new creature?
If this is the case it seems very problematic and not worth the effort to build a PvE based pet based ranger.
On that note, can you have more than one pet? I have the makings for a decent build but am lacking some core information due to my limited play in the one full beta I've been involved in.
It's been addressed in the suggestions area and I strongly agree that some amount of control over the charmed animal is needed. They seem to randomly attack at whim.
Any and all information would be much appreciated, with any luck if the information is favorable. I'll come up with my own pet class Ranger build to let everyone critique.
Thanks in advance,
Mind

First off, you get to keep your pet after you log-off. And second, so far to my knowledge, you can only have one pet.
Did you not log-off for fear of losing your pet the whole beta or something?

im a warrior so i cant answer your questions, but i have some pet questions of my own. when you charm a pet, and keep it for a long time it says it evolves. does that mean it has better attack, hp, and that stuff, or does it become bigger and completly dif? also, if your pet dies, does he come back to life with you or do you lose him when he dies?

Your pet comes back after you exit the mission area. Also, your pet can gain levels just as you can. The longer your pet is with you, the more levels it will gain. It takes a longer period of time, but it does level. You can't ressurect your pet in the mission area, (as far as I observed in the beta).

it depends. my SO's pet actually surpassed him in levels during last beta. also, if you have the comfort pet skill you can res the pet.

Pet Info
Your pet is connected to the Charm Animal skill. If you take the skill off, your pet will not accompany you. However, if you return Charm Animal to your active skills (in town, of course), your pet will accompany you on the next mission.
If you have a pet that doesn't do you justice, you can turn your pet in outside Old Ascalon at the traders' tent. He will wander around for awhile, but will no longer follow you. This leaves you free to charm another animal of your choice. You will not be able to re-charm this pet.
If your pet dies in any mission and you do not have the skill to resurrect him, he will return to you on your next mission. So there is no need to sacrifice yourself or your mission for your pet.
Monk/Rangers can heal their own pets using Monk skills.
Hope you find this helpful.

hp/energy is tied to level and is the same for all creatures.. a level 20 pet will have the same hp and energy as a level 20 player. the evolutions afaik change the name, but not the appearance. they may also affect damage output / armor rating but i am not sure.

A few pet-related notes, but first a disclaimer... I have not played a Ranger with a significant amount of pet skills since the WPE, so many things may have changed but...
Pets can be rez'd in mission, using the skills comfort animal, or revive animal
Pet's do evolve with respect to their AI, as well as the basic leveling process. Depending on your own playstyle, they can develop different tendencies noted by their 'class name'. For example a lynx can be playful, hearty?, and a few other terms I have seen mentioned. I believe (now this is where things begin to get a bit hazy) that these names denote changes in their AL, Dmg and HP.
You cannot have more than one pet at a time, however Jarrel the Tamer, located outside of Ascalon, will take your current pet off of your hands, freeing you up to charm another.
As far as builds, I have seen a few that utilise a good number of the calls to buff a pet considerably. The right combination of calls can certainly make a pet more effective. The knock on pets seem to be a limited usefullness in PvP, but I imagine, if used within the context of a team build, and properly buffed, an extra tank could be an asset, so long as carrying the buffs does not remove the ranger himself from the effectiveness of the team.
